TEMPO.CO, Semarang Tuesday, 28 January,
Durian farmers from Semarang held their head up high as their products are to be tested in the Mijen Festival of Durian scheduled to start from February 1 until February 2, 2014.
In the festival, where Semarang City Administration sets to establish Mijen as the Durian Center in Semarang, the farmers will showcase their 'Kholil Durian', a durian that wins provincial and national scale competition.
Kholil Durian weighs at four to 4.5 kilogram, with tasty yellow flesh and low liquid. Ali Muhtar, Head of the Mijen District, mentioned that Kholil Durian is certified as a low alcohol fruit by the Bogor Farming Institute (IPB).
After winning the national Durian Competition back in 2008, Kholil Durian has received a major attention from Semarang City Administration that helped develop the variety in a 100 hectares field in three districts: Gunungpati, Ngalian, and Mijen.
