TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Five fishermen from Sinjai district, South Sulawesi, has been arrested by the Australian police on Pacitan sea, Monday. The fishermen who left from the Tamperan Fishing Harbor, Pacitan, East Java, have been suspected of entering Australian waters during their fishing activity in the Indian Ocean.
"It is possible that their boat were taken by waves and exited the Indonesian border," said Choirul Huda, the harbor management unit’s facility and infrastructure division chief, Saturday, May 24.
The five fishermen who went to the sea on Saturday, are Musran, as the boat's captain, and four crew members, Asrullah, Illa, Mustang, and Surya.
The information regarding the arrest, he said, was accepted by an officer on Tuesday. Their employer's representative had informed the matter to the harbor management unit. "They conveyed the information from the family who had been contacted by one of the crew members. They said the five fishermen have been arrested" he said.
