A large fire has been raging for more than 10 hours at the King's shopping center on Jl. Dalem Kaum in Bandung since Monday night.
According to one of the shopping center employees, the fire started at a fabric store in the middle of the shopping complex at around 11 p.m. on Monday, as reported by kompas.com.
"We know that the fire grew bigger after it spread from one fabric store to another at around 11 p.m. at night. We don't know what time the actual fire started but the janitor who was cleaning up there said that there was a fire, and he reported it to the security guard, who called the fire brigade," Agus, an employee, said.
Agus explained that the fire had spread from different shops before the fire brigade arrived on the scene. He explained that the fire had continued to grow, and an explosion was also heard during the night.
Dedy, a security guard from a nearby bank, said that the firefighters started extinguishing the fire at midnight and that it had calmed by 2 a.m. on Tuesday.
"They thought the fire had been extinguished so the firefighters left the scene at around 2 a.m.," he said.
However, the fire started again at around 3 a.m., forcing the fire brigade to return. At around sunrise, the fire grew bigger.
According to kompas.com observations, the fire seemed to only increase at 9:30 a.m. Dozens of fire engines from the Bandung Fire Department came to help extinguish the fire, while several members of the community stopped to watch.
