Heavy rain the past few days have caused rivers in Aceh Barat Daya Regency overflowed, inundating thousands of houses since Saturday, November 1, 2014.
Floods that hit South West Aceh inundated 3,000 houses in Mangging District, 1,000 houses in Tangan-Tangan District, and 2,000 houses in Lembah Sabil District.
At least 115 households have been displaced due to the floods.
Head of Data, Information and Public Relations Division of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said that rivers that overflew and caused flooding were Mangging River and Tangan-Tangan River.
"The flooding measures 50 to 100 centimeter,” he said in a press statement on Sunday, November 2, 2014.
According to Sutopo, the joint team that consists of Aceh Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), the South West Aceh Fire Department, the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police, as well as the Search and Rescue (SAR) are currently making emergency response measures.
The South West Aceh BPBD is now making evacuation efforts at Babaros Sub-District.
Sutopo further said that problems faced by the team are among others the lack of personnel and equipment such as rubber boats. Unpredictable rain also caused delay in the evacuation efforts.
