Jakarta- A Korean-flagged vessel, with 12 Indonesian crews on board sank in Somali waters on Tuesday, officials said Saturday, August 8.
The fishing ship Al Aman, which is operated by a Yemeni company, reportedly sank off the coast of El Merina in Somali waters on Tuesday, August 4.
From the 32 crew onboard, 12 of them were Indonesian nationals, including the skipper, while the rest are Vietnamese and Kenyan nationals.
In the meantime, Indonesian Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya has reportedly managed to contact one of the crew through a satellite phone on Wednesday.
“We received information that all the crew are in good condition but the vessel owner and operator do not have a clear contingency plan," kata Yoshi Iskandar from the Indonesian Embassy in Nairobi.
Yoshi also said that in accordance with the briefing from Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno L.P. Marsudi, the Indonesian National Protection of the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Indonesian Embassy in Nairobi would immediately take parallel measures to save the crew.
