Mother confesses to killing 5-year-old child with mosquito spray, says she was angry over bedwetting

The shockingly gruesome murder of a child rocked Jakarta over the weekend, with the perpetrator alleged to be none other than the boy’s own mother.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old West Jakarta single mother NW, was arrested after being accused of fatally torturing her own son, identified as 5-year-old GW, because she was upset that he had been wetting himself often over the past couple of months.

“The suspect was angry and then carried out punishments that far exceeded the norm, which had fatal consequences,” said West Jakarta Police Chief Roycke Langie as quoted by Kompas yesterday.

Roycke added that, based on the suspect’s confession, GW had gone to horrifying extremes to punish her son, sprayed his face with mosquito repellant and then putting a plastic bag over his head in order to stop him crying.

“The suspect used mosquito spray to silence the victim and tied his arms and legs using raffia strings,” he said.

After GW lost consciousness, NW took him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
NW was later arrested and confessed to killing her son. She has been charged with violating Law no. 35/2004 on Child Protection and could be jailed for up to 15 years.


(what!! Allemachies up to 15 years? More likely than not she did not want the child in the first place and after the fifth year the measure was full?
