A 23-year-old man from Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta identified as Jali is reportedly in critical condition after he was violently attacked by six other men over a woman.
According to the police, just before midnight yesterday, Jali went to confront his neighbor, Cibe (22), because he was angry that Cibe had asked out his girlfriend previously.
“After finding out that his girlfriend was asked to go out on a date, Jali went to Cibe’s house and angrily shouted at him. Cibe did not appreciate that,” said Commissioner Mustakim, head of the Crime Investigation Unit at the Tanah Abang Police, as quoted by Warta Kota today.
Unfortunately for Jali, Cibe called on five of his friends, who also live in the neighborhood, to gang up on Jali. The six reportedly attacked Jali with machetes, causing him to suffer numerous severe injuries including his intestines spilling out from the left side of his abdomen.
Furthermore, a bystander who tried to stop the beating broke his left foot after he was pushed away by the attackers and fell.
Both victims were taken to hospital. In the case of Jali, there have not yet been any updates on his condition or whether he would survive his wounds.
All six attackers have been arrested and each of them charged with assault leading to serious bodily harm, which is punishable by up to 12 years in prison.
