Banda Aceh (ANTARA News) - A 7.5 magnitude earthquake rocked Aceh province on Saturday at 2.30 am local time, triggering thousands rushing out from their homes.
The head of the observatory of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency at the Mata Ie station in Aceh Besar Zulham said in the small hours of Saturday the quake was also felt by people in Banda Aceh, Sabang and in Aceh Besar regency.
The quake`s epicenter was located 448 kilometers northwest of Sabang at a depth of 93 kilometers, 7.58 degrees northern latitude and 91 degrees eastern longitude.
"There have been no reports on damage, nor on possibility for a tsunami," he said.
It was quite a strong shock hitting Banda Aceh in the last six months.
On Sunday, December 26, 2004, a 8.9-magnitude quake followed by a tsunami swept and killed at least 200,000 people and many others gone missing in Aceh.(*)
