A resident of Jl Gunung Indrakila in Denpasar discovered a newborn baby wrapped in a towel and a plastic bag on a chair in front of her house.
Novi Artini Palumpang, 46, discovered the infant on her front porch at 6.15pm last Saturday after hearing it crying.
“When she checked outside she found the baby left on a chair in front of the house,” West Denpasar Police chief Dewa Made Adnyana told reporters on Sunday, adding that Palumpang was shocked to discover the child wrapped up inside a pink towel and a white plastic bag.
“It was still attached to the placenta. We suspect that it had only just been born,” he said.
Adnyana said that it was believed that the baby had been left in front of the house in the hope that it would be found and saved.
“We’re looking into the matter, but what is clear is that the baby was unwanted by its parents and was thrown away to another person so it could be taken care of,” he said, adding that the child was being treated at Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar.
“We are looking for the perpetrator,” Adnyana said.
