The Jakarta Police are increasing the number of personnel it will dispatch to secure the upcoming court hearing of terrorism defendant Abu Bakar Ba’asyir, who is scheduled to receive his verdict Thursday.
The police earlier planned to dispatch 2,000 personnel to secure the hearing at the South Jakarta District Court, Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Baharudin Djafar said Sunday in Jakarta.
“On June 16, [2,500] personnel will be dispatched to secure roads heading to the district court,” he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Ba'asyir has been accused of planning and persuading people to raise funds to support a military-style training facility in Jantho Mountain in Aceh.
He allegedly collected Rp 350 million (US$ 41,000) from two donors: Haryadi Usman (Rp 150 million) and Syarif Usman (Rp 200 million).
Prosecutors have demanded Ba'asyir be sentenced to life imprisonment for his action.
