Jakarta Police will deploy 7,200 personnel to 98 locations across Jakarta and its surroundings among efforts to secure Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations in the capital.
On Thursday, Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Sutarman said that there would be 8,300 personnel in total, with 7,200 personnel from the National Police and 1,100 from the Indonesian Military (TNI), local administrations and citizens.
“We have already set up 98 posts at churches, places near churches and at other places of worship.
“Personnel will be deployed to 1,619 churches across Jakarta and its surroundings,” Sutarman said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Sutarman said he hoped the measure would help the public celebrate the annual holiday in safety and comfort, while managing the possibility of terrorism and crime.
