TEMPO Interactive, KUALA LUMPUR:Suramlah, a 35-year-old Indonesian woman from East Java, was attacked and mutilated in her apartment in Selangor, Malaysia.
“We struggled to identify her and contact her family,” said Suryana Sastradiredja, the Social and Culture Information Attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, said on Tuesday.
Her identify was confirmed after the embassy coordinated with the Bondowoso Police, East Java.
Suramlah was found on the fifth floor of the apartment building on August 3, her limbs divided into six separate plastic bags. Her family said Suramlah went to Malaysia in 2005 and returned to Indonesia in 2008. Early in 2009, she went back to Malaysia without saying goodbye to her family.
Suramlah was married to a Malaysian national, who confirmed the dead boy next to Suramlah was their son.
The Indonesian Embassy is coordinating with the Malaysian Police to catch the perpetrator. Selangor Police chief, Tun Hisan Hamzah, said eight Bangladesh nationals who lived at the same apartment had been arrested.
“One of the suspects is her boyfriend who murdered her out of jealousy,” said Suryana. The Malaysian Police searched the suspect’s home and found a weapon and hammer which were allegedly used to kill her.
