Spanish soccer giant Real Madrid is poised to set up a soccer school in Aceh next year, the region’s deputy governor says.
“Real Madrid international and cooperation project director and the LPI [Indonesian Education League] national crew chief visited the sports and football facilities and infrastructure in the Lhong Raya area.
"They will build a sports school in Aceh in 2012,” Muhammad Nazar said Thursday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
The plan to build the school, he said, was a product of a joint venture between the Real Madrid Foundation and Indonesian Education League.
Muhammad added that the school would be a social project aimed at increasing children’s love for soccer and improving their educational achievements, and also to help improve the future of Indonesian soccer.
According to Muhammad, Real Madrid also plans to open schools in seven other cities across Indonesia in 2012.
He added that Aceh administration was in favor of the project and was prepared to provide support in the form of funding from the regional state budget.
“The Aceh administration supports [the school project]. We hope legislators also won't mind,” he said
