A young, female student was gang-raped by six men while traveling in a public minivan in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta on Friday evening.
"The assailants dumped her on the side of a railroad track in Kebayoran Lama after the attack," said Rizal, a friend of the victim.
The young woman, who is a student at a nursing school, said she was on her way home at 9 p.m. on Friday when she took the C01 minivan plying the Ciledug-Kebayoran Baru route. One of the rapists hit her on the back of her head, causing her to fall unconscious, before raping her.
"She came to beside the railroad track and was shocked to discover that she had been the victim of a gang-rape," Rizal was quoted as saying by kompas.com on Sunday.
“Once she felt able, she took a cab home. No valuables were missing," Rizal said.
The young woman told her family what had happened on Saturday afternoon and they took her to South Jakarta Police headquarters to report the case.
South Jakarta Police chief detective Adj. Sr. Comr. Budi Irawan confirmed the report.
"We have sent our team to verify the report," Budi said.
