More than 600 houses have been damaged by powerful gales that struck six villages in Bogor, West Java on Monday evening, Antara news agency reported on Tuesday.
The affected villages were located in Ciomas and Taman Sari subdistricts, said Ciomas subdistrict military command (Koramil) officer, Capt. Acep Komarudin.
“There were no causalities due to the storms; however, students at state elementary school SDN Ciomas 8 have moved temporarily to the Sukamakmur village office, given that their school’s compound is heavily damaged,” said Komarudin on Tuesday.
Komarudin will be deploying 21 Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel to help residents clean up and rebuild their villages.
Sukamakmur village head Sri Widiyarti said that all those evacuated had been relocated to safer places.
“Out of the 427 houses affected [in the village], only 67 of them are heavily damaged. Dozens of families are now staying with neighbors or relatives,” she said
