Four hours after the last voter left the city’s polling stations on Thursday, several pollsters have presented their quick count results for the Jakarta gubernatorial runoff that show the challenger’s victory over the incumbent.
At least three quick counts conducted by separate pollsters put Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and his running mate Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama in first place, defeating Fauzi “Foke” Bowo and his running mate Nachrowi Ramli.
A quick count by Kompas daily stated that Jokowi, who is backed by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), finished first by securing 53.26 percent of the vote.
Fauzi, who is backed by numerous political parties, including the Democratic Party, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Golkar Party and the United Development Party (PPP), finished second by garnering 46.74 percent of the vote.
Kompas daily took samples from 200 polling stations throughout the capital.
Another quick count performed by the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) said that Jokowi secured 53.81 percent of the vote and Fauzi netted 46.19 percent. LSI said that 67.35 percent voters took part in the runoff, higher than the first round of the election on July 11.
Pollster Indo Barometer’s quick count also showed that the Surakarta mayor was headed for Jakarta’s top office, reporting that Jokowi secured 54.11 percent of the total vote, to Foke’s 45.89 percent.
The Jakarta Elections Commission (KPUD) is scheduled to announce the official count on Oct. 3.
According to the KPUD just under 7 million voters registered for the gubernatorial runoff.
In the first round, Jokowi topped five other candidates by securing 42.60 percent of vote, while Fauzi finished second with 34.05 percent.
