Police announced Tuesday evening that an SMA 70 student has been named as suspect for allegedly killing SMA 6 high school student Alawy Yusianto Putra, 15, in a violent incident in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Monday.
“The suspect, identified as FR, is a third-year student from SMA 70. He was the one who allegedly stabbed Alawy,” Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto told reporters.
According to Rikwanto, at the time of the incident, FR and a group of other young men attacked Alawy and his friends who were having lunch at a food stall near the neighboring schools.
Rikwanto also said that FR had armed himself with a sickle. Police later found and confiscated the sickle at the scene.
“Our investigation led to FR based on statements from Alawy’s schoolmate Ramdhan Dinis and SMA 6 teacher Dedy Abdullah,” Rikwanto said.
Ramdhan suffered slash wounds on his forehead during the assault while Dedy reportedly tried to end the violent incident and had a scuffle with FR shortly before he fled the scene.
FR is still at large as of Monday evening. Police officers sought him at his home, but to no avail. Rikwanto said that FR’s family seemed to be hiding the suspect’s whereabouts as of the moment.
FR may face charges of forceful attack with the intent to inflict harm, murder, and fatal assault under the Criminal Code’s Article 170, 338, and 351, respectively.
He may have to spend up to15 years in jail if found guilty.
