MAKASSAR: A baby girl was snatched from Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Tuesday morning.
Hospital president director Abdul Kadir said that the three-month-old baby, daughter of Irmawati, 32, was allegedly taken at 4:30 a.m. local time (5:30 a.m. in Jakarta). “At 4 a.m., a nurse checked the room and the baby was still asleep next to her grandmother,” Kadir said on Tuesday.
The baby’s grandmother, Ratnawati, woke up to find her grandchild gone not long after. She immediately alerted the nurse on duty, who passed the report to hospital security officers and hospital management.
“We have studied the suspected perpetrator on CCTV and have the family’s testimonies,” Kadir said, adding that the hospital management had reported the incident to the Tamalanrea police precinct.
The commander of the Tamalanrea police precinct, Comr. Amiruddin, confirmed the report, saying the police were investigating the case.
The kidnapping is the first at Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital, the biggest hospital in eastern Indonesia.
