A bamboo dock at Lake Beratan at the Bedugul resort, Tabanan, Bali, suddenly collapsed, causing the deaths of two tourists on Saturday.
Tabanan Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Dekananto Eko said on Sunday that the two tourists were part of a group of 12 students from SMA 1 Plumpang high school, East Java, who were sightseeing at the site. They flocked to the dock to take pictures when it collapsed. The twelve fell into the 22-meter-deep lake.
Dekananto said 10 of them managed to swim ashore while the other two, Slamet and Sri Utami, drowned.
The bodies of both 17-year-old students have been sent to their hometown to be buried.
