As many as 21 injured people were rushed to the nearest hospital in Makassar following an inter-village clash on Wednesday morning. Two groups of people from different villages attacked each other with rocks, wood, sharp weapons and air rifles.
The victims were hospitalized at three different hospitals in Makassar. As many as 12 men were hospitalized at Dangko Hospital while 9 others were sent to Labuang Baji Hospital and Bhayangkara Police Hospital.
According to the locals, the brawl was started on Wednesday morning and reoccurred four hours after the first clash. It was allegedly caused by a group of angry youngsters who were retaliating after their friend was struck by another group of youngsters from nearby village.
Erna, a local resident, acknowledged that the locals had reported the clash to the police early but no proper response was forthcoming. South Sulawesi Police spokesman Sr.Comr. Endi Sutendi said a group of officers had been dispatched to the area but could not restore order due to a lack of personnel.
