Police Nab 3 Alleged Drug Traffickers, Seize 64 Kilograms of Marijuana,
Police arrested three alleged drug traffickers in Tangerang and seized 64 kilograms of dried marijuana.
“We caught the three suspects in South Tangerang on Monday night,” Cilandak Police chief Comr. Sungkono said on Wednesday.
Sungkono said the police were tipped off about a large marijuana transaction in Setu, South Tangerang, by local residents.
The police immediately headed to the location and arrested a man identified as E.W. Afterward, he led police to two other suspects — A.M. and D.
“We seized 2 kilograms of marijuana from them. We also found 62 kilograms of marijuana stashed in D.’s house. They said that they have sold about 30 kilograms all together,” he said.
Sungkono remarked that the marijuana belonged to E.W., though D. agreed to keep it after E.W. paid him Rp 5 million ($510). E.W. revealed that he bought the marijuana in Aceh.
The police chief added that the suspects were mostly selling the marijuana to students.
The suspects could be sentenced to life in prison for violating the 2009 Law on Narcotics, though Sungkono said the police were still investigating the case to determine whether or not they were part of a larger drug ring.
