TEMPO.CO, Semarang – The Central Java Administration is currently holding the 2013 Borobudur International Festival centered in Magelang from June 13 to 17. The festival will open with an orchestra and a mass dancing performance titled the "Spirit of Borobudur" at Hotel Manohara near the Borobudur Temple on Friday, June 14.
The festival will consist of three main events including art and cultural performances, an international orchestra, and an international seminar about cultural heritage. The seminar will be held from June 17 to 18 at the Grand Artos Hotel in Magelang.
"The seminar is aimed at preserving the Borobudur Temple as an international world cultural heritage," said Sugeng Sugianto, Director of Promotions for the Central Java Tourism Board.
He added that the Borobudur Travelmart and Expo will also be included in the festival as one of its series of events. This gathering is aimed at maintaining the promotional network between tourism traders from Central Java and its business partners overseas such as Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Saudi Arabia.
"This is the largest annual tourism business and exhibition gathering held in Central Java," he added.
Head of Marketing at the Central Java Cultural and Tourism Department, Trenggono, stated this festival is aimed at increasing the amount of tourists in Central Java. He targeted an average of 80,000 people per day during this festival.
