The Transportation Ministry has announced that passengers of the Gerbang Samudra II ferry, which was stranded near Gilimanuk Port in Bali, have all been evacuated.
“As many as 139 adults and 73 children have been evacuated as of Saturday afternoon, the day the incident took place [in the morning],” the ministry spokesman Bambang S. Erfan said in an SMS message on Sunday.
The ship, which serves the Gilimanuk-Ketapang (East Java) route, ground to a halt when it tore through an electricity cable on Saturday at 9:45 a.m. as it was approaching the quay at the port located in Jembrana regency, western Bali.
“The incident was due to strong waves at the port,” Bambang said, adding that the ship was also carrying 56 vehicles
