The Indonesian Haj Committee (PPIH) said on Saturday that it had identified five more Indonesian pilgrims who died in a stampede during the haj in Mina, Saudi Arabia, bringing the country’s death toll in the incident to 100.
The committee further said at least 28 pilgrims were still unaccounted for while six were undergoing medical treatment.
"Today [on Saturday], five more Indonesian victims have been identified, thus the death toll has now reached 100," PPIH’s Mecca working area head, Arsyad Hidayat, said as quoted by kompas.com on Saturday.
The five Indonesians confirmed dead are Nandang Suryana Sulaeman from batch JKS 61, Entin Rostini Ikin (JKS 61), Supardi Harjodiikromo Kerta (JKS 61), Ahmat Khalimin Sambudi (SOC 62) and Juri Makri Monadi (SUB 28).
Among the 100 victims, five resided in Mecca and were on the haj when the incident happened.
Meanwhile, 17 out of 28 unaccounted pilgrims are from batch JKS 61. Three other pilgrims are from batch BTH 14, followed by two pilgrims from batch SUB 36, two pilgrims from SUB 48, and four pilgrims from four batches, namely one each from SOC 62, SUB 28, SUB 61 and UPG 10.
"According to earlier data, 154 Indonesian pilgrims had not yet returned to their lodgings," Arsyad said.
