Bali Police’s Narcotics Investigative Unit, working along the with counter transnational and organized crime (CTOC) task force, arrested a woman suspected of involvement in an East Java prison drug trading network on Thursday night in Kuta.
Identified in reports as Balinese woman Ni Luh Putu Mega Karisma, 25, the woman had allegedly been hiding half a kilo of meth in a stuffed monkey toy, police said.
Bali Police spokesman Hengky Widjaja said that there were a total of six packages of meth stuffed inside the toy.
“The evidence was secured in the form of six clear plastic bags, allegedly methamphetamine with a gross weight of 605.4 grams, net weight of 592.92 grams,” Widjaja said before reporters on Friday, as quoted by Tribun Bali.
From the arrest of the woman with the “meth monkey,” police were able to catch another man they say is connected to the East Java prison drug network, identified by initials RA, 27, who was arrested the same evening, at 9:30pm at his boardinghouse in South Kuta.
“Inside the second suspect’s boardinghouse, we found a bong, four bundles, scales, an ATM card, and a mobile phone,” Widjaja said.
Karisma and RA had been active in a drug dealing network from Madiun Prison in East Java, according to Widjaja.
“The two perpetrators are currently being examined at Bali Police headquarters,” the police spokesman said.
Two other drug suspects, allegedly related to Karisma and RA were arrested on Thursday night in Denpasar.
Dedik Supramono, 32, and Edwin Ardiansyah, 27, were arrested with 124.46 grams of meth in—not as exciting as a stuff monkey—a black plastic bag.
