Indonesia is a home of many festivals, rituals, and cultural performances which are an inseparable part of the lives of the Indonesian people. Cap Gomeh is one of a kind ritual and festival which is celebrated anually around Indonesia.
Cap Gomeh Festival is commonly celebrated after Chinese New Year's Day (Imlek). Imlek came up from the Chinese society traditions which is considered as a gratefulness expression to the Almighty God for the livelihood and also wishes to have better life in years to come. This remarkable event is always commemorated consecutively for fifteen days and the last day is called Cap Gomeh. It is believed that Cap Gomeh Festival could avoid the nuisance or misfortune in the future.
This year, Cap Gomeh Festival will be held on February, 28th 2010. People will flock to see alluring attraction of Tatung parade who exhibit their body immunity such as puncturing copper wire on their cheeks, ears, also necks, sitting on knives and spikes, walking above the fire, even breaking the glass and eating those up.
Moreover, the sacred spirits are beckoned to enter the selected people. It is believed that these sacred spirits can ward off the wicked spirits which intend to tease the society harmonization. Those sacred spirits are hero figures in Chinese legendary, for instance, military high commander, judges, scholars and other sacred people.
