Tapaktuan, Aceh (ANTARA News) - The South Aceh police have spotted five hectares of marijuana in the mountainous area of Lhok Sialang Rayeuk village, Pasie Raja sub-district, 30 kilometers east of Tapaktuan district`s capital, this week.
"We have arrested the marijuana farming owner for further investigation," South Aceh police chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Setiyono said here Tuesday.
The suspect, only identified as BG, 45, was caught red-handed while cutting grass on his marijuana farming. On his soil, he also planted such plants as nutmeg trees and chilies, he said.
Along with his men, Setiyono said they destroyed BG`s cannabis trees whose heights were between 50 and 170 centimeters.
A few thousands of marijuana trees were planted on the mountainous areas. Many had been harvested, he said.
To the police investigators, BG said he had planted the marijuana trees for a year. The harvested marijuana were marketed in the provinces of Aceh and North Sumatra.
Crushing the marijuana farmings would be continued because there would likely be some others on the Leuser mountainous areas that the police had yet to detect, he said.
"I hope locals will help us so that we can destroy the plants that can potentially harm our young generations," he said. (*)
