Police seized a truck in Bireuen, Aceh carrying 670 kilograms of marijuana bound for Java hidden among packages of turmeric over the weekend.
According to Bireuen Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Yuri Karsono, the police seized 16 sacks of marijuana and captured the truck’s driver Sukri, 44, a resident of Meunasah Blang, Juang City, and his co-driver Muzakir, 35, a resident of Blang Pulo, Muara Satu, Lhokseumawe.
They were detained in Bireuen for further investigation.
Yuri said the police got a tip from the locals that a truck loaded with marijuana was headed from Aceh Besar to Java.
The police trailed the truck to Bireuen and told the driver to pull over at the Kaye Jatho intersection. When the police searched the truck, they found large bags of marijuana hidden beneath a tarpaulin that had been dusted with coffee power to conceal the strong smell of the contraband, tribunnews.com reported on Tuesday.
According to the police, both suspects admitted they were paid Rp 60 million (US$6,476) to transport the marijuana from Aceh Besar to Java. (iwa)
