TEMPO Interactive, Magelang:
To commemorate victims of the Merapi disaster, 1,000 lanterns will be released during Waisak celebrations on May 17 at Borobudur Temple. “This is the most number of lanterns we will release on Waisak celebrations at the Borobudur Temple,” Pujo Suwarno, the Borobudur Temple Tourism Park head, said yesterday.
Social services are also organized for Waisak Day, including minor and harelip operations for 15,000 people on May 14 – 15. The Borobudur Temple management is currently still cleaning the temple from volcanic dust. The Borobudur Temple Restoration staff head, Mura S., said the eighth and tenth floors would be closed during the Waisak ceremony because they were still dusty.
