Three dead after maniac stabbing spree in Makassar

Three people died on Wednesday after they were stabbed by a mentally ill person in front of Makassar Town Square mall.

Two died where they were attacked, and another died from their wounds at a local hospital.

A local police officer said police had arrested the perpetrator and identified him as a person suffering from depression.

Reports said that the man suddenly approached a group of people in front of the mall and stabbed them at random.

The Makassar Police in South Sulawesi have evacuated family members of a suspect who allegedly went on a stabbing spree in Makassar Town Square Mall, fearing revenge attacks from the victims' families.

Police spokesman Adj. Sr. Commr. Muhammad Siswa said the crime was a random event and that the perpetrator was mentally disturbed.

“If he was normal he would not have stabbed his victims to death,” he said as quoted by tribunnews.com on Thursday.

He confirmed that people in Makassar did not feel provoked by the incident.
