Dozens of passengers suffered electric shocks and were caught in a stampede following apparent explosions on an electric-powered train between Rawa Buntu station and Sudimara station in Serpong Tangerang on Thursday afternoon, an eyewitness has said.
No immediate information regarding the number of injuries, or whether there were any fatalities in the incident, was available from the authorities.
Soviet, an eyewitness who was on board the train said that it left Rawa Buntu station at 5:30 p.m. The train came to a halt around 200 meters from Sudimara station.
“Around 10 minutes after the train stopped there were three flashes between the first car and the second car. The third flash was big and started a fire in the first car,” Sovie told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
"Some people suffered electric shocks and were caught in a stampede when they tried to get out of the carriage," Sovie told The Jakarta Post over the phone.
“We still don’t know how many victims were in the incident," she said.
