Fifteen drunken police officers reportedly assaulted patrons at a bar in Manado, North Sulawesi on Tuesday. The officers allegedly struck and pointed their guns at customers and trashed the bar.
The ruckus started in the parking area when the bar was about to close — a car, owned by North Sulawesi police officer, was blocking the exit.
“My friend only requested the police move the car. Instead, he was hit,” Michael Taribuka, an employee at the bar, told detik.com.
Michael and a few other patrons tried to calm the situation, but they were beaten by police and ran back into the bar, according to witnesses, who also said that police targeted other bar employees.
“We tried to fight back, but they took out their guns and pointed them at our heads, so we ran away,” Michael said.
The manager of the bar, Yosua Tongku, reported the case to the police.
North Sulawesi Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Denny Aware confirmed the incident, saying that police had launched an investigation into the matter.
“They could be demoted and fired,” Adare said.
