An investigation has revealed that Cmr. Slamet Riyadi — a mid-ranking Riau police official who was arrested on Oct. 28 for the alleged possession of thousands of ecstasy pills — was a participant in the ecstasy trade, police said on Sunday.
“He admitted that he had made three ecstasy deals,” Lampung Police Chief Brig. Gen. Heru Winarko told the Jakarta Globe. “We have named him as a suspect in this case. He is cooperating in the investigation.”
Slamet worked as the head a Riau Police detail that provided security to foreign representatives. His alleged involvement in the ecstasy trade was first uncovered when police arrested two housewives from Pekanbaru — the capital of Riau province, on the east coast of Sumatra — in the Bakauheni port in Lampung, near Sumatra’s southern tip.
The women, Hesti and Nurmaisyah, were couriers, police said, intercepted en route from Riau to Jakarta, where Slamet allegedly awaited them in a hotel room. He planned to sell the 6,904 pills to a buyer in the city, according to police.
“We are still investigating the buyers and the makers of the ecstasy,” Heru said. “Slamet’s name showed up in the questioning of the two couriers and communication evidence in their cellular phones.”
After facing questioning by the Riau Police over his absence from work, Slamet has been transferred into the custody of the Lampung Police, who will continue the investigation.
