The southern coast of Central Java, which was hit by a 6.5 magnitude earthquake over the weekend, felt a 5.3-magnitude aftershock late on Monday. The were no reports of damage or of casualties.
The latest aftershock hit at 11:14 p.m. on Monday, 33 kilometers under the floor of the Indian Ocean and 68 kilometers southwest of the Central Java city of Kebumen, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said in the early hours of Tuesday.
Residents reported feeling the earthquake in Kebumen, and the aftershock was felt as far away as Bandung and Yogyakarta.
Dozens of buildings were reported to have collapsed in at least five districts of Central Java when a 6.5-moment magnitude earthquake struck on Saturday. There have been 24 recorded aftershocks since Saturday.
